My 5 top tips to fall in love with your business again!
When times are tough, it can be difficult to feel motivated to show up in your business every day. I write this while we are in the recession of 2023, post Covid and Brexit (2 words that didn’t even exist a few years ago!).
If you are feeling uninspired and burnt out with your business, that is normal, trust me! I wanted to create a podcast and blog on this topic as I know it is possible to re-ignite your passion and fall back in love with your business. And what better time to talk about this than the Spring, when we’ve just had Valentine’s Day and are thinking about all things to do with love and new growth!
To help you on this journey, here are my 5 top tips to get your business passion reignited!
Tip 1 - Reflect on Your Customers
One of the best ways to fall back in love with your business is to reflect on those amazing customers you already have who help make your dreams a reality each day. Some questions you could answer:-
What has been the best client you’ve had?
What have you loved most about your customers?
What bit of work have you loved doing the most?
Taking time to appreciate all the wonderful things that have happened during your customer interactions will help remind you why it is so important and fulfilling. You can also read your customer reviews to remind yourself of the impact you have on your their lives.
Tip 2 - Make Difficult Decisions
Something we don’t do enough of in life is make difficult decisions. In order to do this, we have to find the time and space to reflect in our businesses (and life!). It’s important to take stock and I would recommend taking a step back at least once a month in your business for a couple of hours of reflection time.
Unload the stuff that isn’t potentially serving you and doesn’t feel aligned with where you want to go. This could mean simplifying processes, getting rid of products/services that are no longer popular, cutting ties with certain vendors or clients, and more.
Making these tough choices will free up room in your schedule and resources so that you can focus on what truly matters. Leaning in to these difficult conversations can be scary, but in the longer term they will pay off.
Tip 3 - Be Focused
This is easier said than done! As an entrepreneur, your brain probably flips between so many different things - the financials, admin, marketing, social media, the operations of the business, etc.
However our energy is finite, and having a focus and structure to what you do can be powerful.
Don’t try to do too much at once; whether that is in terms of the products/services that you offer, or the tasks that you try to complete each day. Keep things simple and give yourself rewards when you achieve at each step.
Tip 4 - Identify Non-Negotiables Tasks
It is very easy to procrastinate in business. This may look like:-
Checking social media
Reading your emails
Spending hours creating a piece of content like a reel
However ask yourself - ‘is this task creating revenue in my business?’
Of course, not all tasks are going to be directly growing your revenue, however a lot of tasks are just time and energy zapping and have no correlation with our revenue generation.
So it’s important to understand which tasks will create revenue in our businesses - these are our non-negotiables that we should prioritise over everything else. By knowing what activities will directly benefit our businesses, we can ensure that we are taking action every day that moves us closer towards our goals!
I would recommend you have a list of 3 non-negotiables in your business written on your desk so you can see them. And then each day make sure you are doing something (no matter how small) to move you towards those revenue generating activities.
Tip 5 - Invest in Your Business
My final tip is around how you could invest in your business. And this doesn’t have to mean spending money.
Here are some ways you could invest in your business:-
Find a course, workshop or seminar to help you upskill.
Get an accountability buddy that you can work alongside for accountability and motivation.
Consider a new working environment, e.g. a cowork space to broaden your network and motivation.
Think about if working with a mentor, coach or consultant could be right for you.
